As a teacher and then as an administrator I had worked with a few online platforms before I started consulting full-time early in 2020. You know these, they help manage the reporting on assessing student attainment of learning outcomes and administrative outcomes, they provide a template for your accreditation reports, and they may help manage faculty credentials among other tasks. Since 2020 I have worked in nearly all of the popular platforms. I really only liked one, I tolerated many, and a few I absolutely hate. My biggest problem with these is that many don’t appear to have been developed by practitioners and that got me to thinking.
It was probably early 2023 when I started thinking about how I would build a platform if I only had programming knowledge or knew a programmer that would work on a project like this for a piece of the action when it was done. Well, in 2024 I found one and we got to work on the first of many planned modules. Our first module is focused on assessment of student attainment of learning outcomes and I am pleased to tell you that we signed our first client last week and SEAC-Assessment is officially a thing.
This platform guides faculty through a simple, straightforward, and effective approach to this process that parallels the highly successful Assessment Academy that I developed a couple of years ago. Our focus when developing SEAC-Assessment was a no-frills approach to a functional platform. There are no flashy graphics. There are no sound effects. Just a functional platform. What sets us apart is that we offer guidance. How should you write an outcome? How shouldn’t you and why? What is the importance of the curriculum map? How should you construct your evaluation rubric? I have yet to see an online platform that offers guidance in these matters. We do, because we do this all the time.
So, what is next? We have already started on the SEAC-Service Review platform to track and report administrative and student support outcomes attainment. Along with that will come SEAC-Strategic Planning because you should not be doing service review without linking it tightly to the strategic plan.
